  1. The sketches/drawings are beautifully done. I much prefer them to the paintings. In going through boxes and files today I found several old sketches I’ve picked up over the years and found myself mesmerized by the pencil strokes and feathering, etc.

      It’s great to hear from you.

      For many of these artists, visible brush strokes in paintings were bad practice. The painter’s hand was deliberately hidden through a variety of techniques. Like you, I love looking at drawings because they are a window into the approach of the artist. I collect as many as I can.

    The Roman is back! Yay! And back with fascinating new material. Last weekend, I was thinking, “If I take Bearded Roman off my home page in favor of a blog with frequently changing content, will that get him back?” I hovered and concentrated, and decided to give it a few days… Go away less often, okay?
