I had a great conversations with my friend, the painter Jeff Hein, on his show The Undraped Artist Podcast. We discussed the history of portraiture from Raphael to Joaquín Sorolla. It is an ambitious and impossible task to summarize the technical, material, and stylistic changes that took place among major European artists during a four-hundred-year period. So, please realize this is more of a conversation between to curious friends than a scholarly exercise. (Maybe one day I will actually try to tackle it as a scholar.) Anyways, enough excuses.
